01
Be Honest About the Layoff
A year off and a decade off are not the same reset. Be specific with yourself about how long it's been and what's changed — your reflexes, your fitness, and the roads themselves.
02
Book a Skills Refresher
Muscle memory comes back faster than judgment does. A proper refresher course before your first ride resets both at once, and it's the single best money you'll spend this year.
03
Audit Your Gear
Helmets, jackets, and boots don't last forever in a closet either. Check dates, foam, and stitching before you trust any of it on the road again — replace anything you're unsure about.
04
Pick the Right Bike for Now
The bike you rode before might not be the bike you need today. Start closer to your current skill than your old confidence — you can always size up once the reflexes are back.
05
Ease Back In
Short rides, familiar roads, good weather. Build distance and confidence in that order, not the other way around.
